Thanks Adrian, I rather hoped it was, as my heater vac controls are
inop, and there's nothing connected to said tank!!!!

Do you happen to know how many lines connect to it, when properly
hooked up? I've seen one thin line which wasn't connected, but
wondered if there should be any more?
Thanks muchly! >> Stay informed about: C900 Conv 1992 - what's the tank in the spare wheel well? |

It's the heater control vac bottle - on a tintop, it'd be in the RH front
inner wing, but there's screen pillar reinforcement in there on a ragtop. >> Stay informed about: C900 Conv 1992 - what's the tank in the spare wheel well? |

Aye, that'd do it...

Mine's a tin-top, so I dunno if it's the same or not, but logic suggests
two - one to the manifold, one to the heater knob. >> Stay informed about: C900 Conv 1992 - what's the tank in the spare wheel well? |

Absolutely right Carl! At least, I only found one in the trunk of this
convertible; a semi-rigid plastic line, connecting to a rubber adaptor
on the second "spout" (the one without the external check valve!)
And yes, the vacuum came back on connecting the line, and the control
valve and solenoids all seem to work properly now.
Just one curiosity though. The central vent seems to switch on and off
as it should with the different control settings, but, it only seems
to blow cool air even though the other vents/heater outlet are blowing
heated air.
Can't see anything in the Townsend diagrams that would suggest a
reason for this. It's as though the centre vent is getting its air
before it passes through the heater core, but don't see how this is
possible.
Any wise ideas? Anyone? Please? >> Stay informed about: C900 Conv 1992 - what's the tank in the spare wheel well? |

Thanks Kevin! Another good idea from Saab....
And thanks to you, I'm not trying to fix something that ain't broke!
I'm learning to ask before I try to fix....
Should the rubber seal around the shut-off door back of the vent
grille be hard or soft? The driver side has soft rubber, and the
centre and passenger side shut-offs have harder, thicker rubber,
making it difficult to shut the door compared with the driver side
vent. All appear original... >> Stay informed about: C900 Conv 1992 - what's the tank in the spare wheel well? |

This is as it should be - the center vent is outside or A/C'd air only, never
heated. The idea being to allow cold air to the face with the heat on to keep
the driver awake.
