Brake light come on in Toyota Camry 2000

two things come to mind, brake light switch which is just like a light
switch.Should be located
behind the brake pedal. It could be sticking. The other thing is a
bad wire shorting out.

even if brake fluid level is at max., add a little.
The float switch is very sensitive.
I tell you from my own experience (after a tip I got from my Toyota dealer).

Check the wire at the trunk lid. I had this problem on our 1999 Camry
and it turned out to be a bad wire in the area where the trunk lid
hinge is located.

I topped of the brake fluid. It was a the MIN level now its is at MAX
level. I also took the car to the toyota dealership to get the brakes
inspected as part of a tire rotation package deal. They said the
brakes were fine and did not need replacing. They were at 4mm pad
thickness. Meanwhile the "BRAKE" light has not come on since i topped
off the liquid. So i am hoping that was the issue.

The parking brake switch can be checked with an ohmmeter (but you need
to open the center console). However, my guess is with the brake fluid
level switch. Test with an ohmmeter at the reservoir connector when
it's acting up. Should be fairly easy.

I have had this happen 4 times over the 13 years I have owned my 4 pot
CAMRY.

2 times it was a faulty bulb in the near side Brake lamp housing. Open
circuit filament.Dash indicator stayed on.
1 time it was intermittent..the bulb filament could be seen hanging and
sometimes making connection
inside the glass. The dash light would go out then for a while.

the 4 th time it was the EARTHY side of the bulb against the metal bulb
holder.
I just cleaned the metal of the lamp and inside the holder and tightened the
hold up a little to make a better
connection to the body of the bulb.
Again the Dash light was intermittent.

I tried the top up the dash pot to no avail. It was always basically the
bulb
