Black plates for a '50 Studebaker (registered in '51)

I thought I'd heard that CA doesn't allow the register of old plates
anymore unless
they are the plate number that the vehicle originally had AND the number
hasn't been
re-issued since the last time the originals were renewed. Better check
that "reactivated"
statement, as it may mean only if you can prove your car was issued that
specific
plate number 'way back when.

Thanks all.

The DMV told me via phone that the '63 plates wouldn't be an issue,
but when I turned up for an appt., they told me that I needed '51
plates that could be reactivated. I'll review the DMV website and ask
a plate reseller. Again, thank you.

Are you in Ca? If you are in Ca I can answer your question: Can you
prove the old 63 plates you have on the car belong there with a old
registration card? If so you can continue to use those same plates;
free of charge, with a statement of facts that you want to continue
those plates(YOU MUST HAVE PROOF, other then the plates being on the
car). If you are looking for YOM Plates: Year of Manufacture plates -
you must find a clear set that match the year of your vehicle. They
are oversized black with yellow letters. One of us here just happens
to be a Manager at the CA DMV

At a San Diego Chapter meeting a few years ago we had a DMV
"advisor."
He is ex-DMV employee and will, by himself or with you, go to the DMV
and point out to the counter people what page on the book they should
use.

If necessary, our Sectretary might be able to find his name / address.
