Post subject: Black Diamond Tires
Archived from groups: alt>autos>studebaker (more info?)

On Monday or Tuesday I called Black
Diamond Tires to get a replacement for
the tire that burned. I was told that
this was their busy season, and they
cannot get that specific tire as it was
discontinued. It would take 3 to
possibly 4 weeks to get a tire. I said
no problem, read read back my address
and my original order from the year 2000
and that was that.

At 3:30 this afternoon the mechanic
called the car was done but they need a
tire, should they buy one or what? I
said I have 5 radials here that came off
the cars I will be right down.
Threw a tire into a car and delivered
it. drove home and UPS is in the
driveway. He starts off loading cases of
shirts and I am writing checks, and the
driver says,, hey Bill, I got a tire for
you................ I almost pissed in
my pants.

Back down to the mechanics praying that
he did not mount the one I delivered 30
min earlier/ He was just about to, but
we got the Black Diamond on.

The owner of the shop is totally amazed
with the network Studebaker has,
overnight, I had a drum, hub and
hardware flown in, actually a nice sized
list of parts he needed. he figured it
would take me a month to get a drum and
some other stuff. He then told me that
he was in Yonkers NY early this am at a
junk yard. The owner was on the phone
with somebody looking for parts for a 57
Golden Hawk.

When I brought in the special made tire
it was like the last straw, he only
wants to work on Studebakers now. For a
car company that went by by almost 40
yrs ago, to be able to get parts next
day or for that matter same week is a
mind blower. He has waited a week or
more for a part needed foe a one year
old car.

I also found Black Diamond to be great people to work with, and far more
reasonably priced than Brand C.

I've not heard of Black Diamond or are you referring to Diamond Back Tires?
I had a good experience also with Diamond Back. I had one of their tires go
bad in a couple of hunderd miles. No problem, they immediately sent a
replacement tire without even seeing the bad tire.

The daughter of Karel Staple (The Sacramento Chapter is named in his honor)
was
driving past the GM plant outside of Oakland when the engine in her new Olds
blew.
They were being put in cars at that very plant, but it took weeks before the
dealer could get one for Karen.

The outside mirror on a Ford car was knocked off in one of these
mirror-to-mirror incidents and it took weeks to get it fixed. This was on
one of the cars Ford loans to auto magazines. Again, cars were getting them
installed on the assembly line but there was none available for a press
demo!

Stupidity reigned thirty years ago, and seemingly still does.
