Post subject: Battery Keeps Going Dead
Archived from groups: alt>autos>cadillac>deville (more info?)

I have a 90 DeVille Coupe with 160K miles, very clean, previous owner
kept the car serviced quite well. Anyway, I bought the car last year
and it ran great all summer long, oh by the way, I use this car as my
daily beater, my garage "Queen" only goes out in good dry weather. I
don't use the Caddy everyday though, I'm retired (50 yrs old) so during
the winter the battery kept going dead, I'd recharge it and then use it
without any problem. Then after sitting for 2-3 days it would be dead
again. Ok, so I thought it was from lack of driving and the cold winter
weather. Come this spring, I'm driving my G.Q. more often, and I have
to move the Caddy that's parked behind it. Well after starting it and
moving it a couple times a week, the battery goes dead again. I try to
take it out before I put it back in the drivway, and go around the long
block, (about a 8-10 mile round trip) and park it to keep it charged.
But, after a couple of days of it sitting the battery's dead again. Do
you think the battery is weak, it's only a little over a year old and
it's 700 amps, or do you think the lack of driving it and just moving
it in and out of the driveway is doing it? I was thinking of getting a
new Die-Hard Heavy Duty Battery and see if that's any better at holding
a charge. Note: I had the whole electrical system checked out before
the winter and all was well, the guy even said the battery was the
right size for the car. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
BB

You probably have a parasitic drain on the battery, something is stayin on
and drawing current out of the battery, like a module not going to sleep or
an alarm system. Most of the time it is an aftermarket accessory installed.
If you have a volt meter with a milliamp setting I can tell you how to
locate the draw.
