Post subject: Art Arfons Passes Away

Yet again, the motorsports community has lost a member. Active in a
number of different racing disciplines, Art Arfons was an icon. His many
achievements speak for themselves. May he Rest In Peace.

Art's use of aircraft engins was contriversial in the late 50s. Here
was 1500+ HP available cheaply on the surplus market and, as the
article at the link states, Art was the first member of the 150 MPH
Club in 1958. Airplane engined (and jets) were eventually banned for
lots of reasons but Art kept at it with the airplane engines and jets
at Bonneville and later in tractor pulling. Art Arfons was always one
of my favorites.

Talked to Art at hole in the wall Fairgrounds pull in Frederick MD. with the
Green Monster. Beautiful Paint on the tractor. He was very nice and down to
earth. I think his Daughter Drove one also. He will be remembered by lots of
people he was around. RIP Wayne
