Post subject: AU FALCON MOD QUESTION
Hello there first time poster here!
I have a 4L 6 cyl AU I falcon...
I am stuck with it for a while and i am sick of it...
Anyway i am thinking of doing some stuff under the bonnet to give it a bit more grunt...
Any suggestions the other thing... which is a negative is that this thing is on GAS....
So if you could please let me know what the best options are.... LET ME KNOW!
( i am going to get some new rims and lower the thing soon, then get a new kit on it.
But before the Exterior stuff i want to Get the engine going good before i do that. )
also if possible could you please give me a rough idea on how much the mods would cost that would be ace!
thanks
Rob

Why is gas a negative?
You can do plenty to any engine, but it all depends on how much money you
wish to throw at the thing. The short answer here is that there is no
magical power increase for 20 bucks.
If your budget is limited, a Crow Cams cam & header package will give you
around 25kw at the wheels, and set you back around 1200 bucks. If your
budget is *unlimited*, a turbo or supercharger will work wonders

Noddy is right, there is no $20 performance increase.
There is a few minor cheap performance mods;
start with upgrading the cold air snorkel to a Tickford one, these are cheap, ring around as you can pick them up new for under $30 from some places.
Replace the paper panel filter with a cotton filter like KN air filter.
Now it gets dearer;
2.5" Sports exhaust, from cat back, unless the catalytic converter is stuffed just get the openings widened to 2.5", they flow well standard.
Headers, vary in price, JMM and Pacemaker seem to be the ones to get.
Aftermarket cam, you can get a Wade regrind with shims cheap.
Don't worry about ECU chips etc, unless you go full house mods, the EECV ecu is pretty advanced and can adapt, just check Jim Mocks website to see that 170RWKW can be achieved without touching the ECU.
And if you want one company to do the lot, get in contact with Jim Mock Motorsport http://www.jimmockmotorsport.com/ , check out what they can do, there is others but I haven't seen as good results.
Check other Australian Ford type websites and forums for modification ideas, I don't want to steal a member here or tread on toes but this site doesn't have much activity regarding Australian Fords, if it wasn't for Noddy it would be very quiet.
Reason I am saying this is because there is currently forum sections just devoted to Australian Ford I6.

hey thanks fellas!
the car is DUEL FUEL.
ok i will give you my reasons for LPG being crap.....
Since i have had it installed i have had probs with tranny, tuning probs, stupid thing back firing and blowing my air filter box right off! hehe got that problem sorted out... umm not much power, comparing to petrol.
I also had another problem the coil pack Sh*t it's self not long ago but had a mate bang another one in for $50, which i thought was good..
ANY WAY.. i aint up to speed with all the possible mod slang, heard heaps and heaps about the CATback exhaust.. now can somene explain to me what it is...
My budget is pretty big, as i was planning on buying an BA xr6t but.... dont really see the point when i got a perfectly good AU at the moment that wil be a prick to sell anyway!.........
So say if i went down to JEFFO ford ( used to work there as a courier) and asked for a tickford air intake thing. Say pay roung $30 and does it bang straight on... do i have to buy a new perf air filter from somewhere?

There shouldn't be that big a difference in power between ULP and LPG, the reason most LPG vehicles produce lower power is because gas has lower BTU (British Thermal Units = energy per volume etc), but gas has a higher octane rating than PULP, so to get power out of LPG you require slightly higher compression ratio (Australia gas quality limits this) and altered timing to suit, normally more initial timing and less total than what is required for petrol.
You ECU can not adjust to these settings from the factory, and you don't want this for petrol because it would only cause the engine to ping.
Back firing is normally caused by lean mixture and a combination of leads (most common), plugs and maybe coil. As you will most likely run LPG more often because of price you are better to replace plugs with plugs one or two heat ranges cooler, replace leads with the best leads you can find (Genuine Ford are crap for lasting, I used to work in a few dealerships), ask around and don't just believe the first sales person etc.
Sounds like you AU needs a good LPG tune, the stepper motor between the converter and mixer is for economy, it works in close loop, it doesn't do much for power or idle etc, the rest needs to be adjusted and many fitters etc stuff it up (including me )
CAT back exhaust is exactly that, a new exhaust fitted after the catalytic converter, the converter is normally an expensive item so it is seldom replaced, but the AU converter flows well and shouldn't be replaced unless it is damaged etc.
If you ask for a AU Tick ford snorkel it will fit straight on (slight mods to fit one to a E series etc), remove the two screws from the top of the old one, pull the snorkel towards the other side of the car and do the reverse to fit the new one.
Out of interest, is it a sedan or wagon.
Have I missed something, I am not the best for info on I6, there is far better than me for this info, I just worked on them for years, my interest is in Windsor V8s etc. >> Stay informed about: AU FALCON MOD QUESTION

Look for another installer.
I've had lpg powered vehicles for over 25 years, and the performance
difference between gas & petrol should be barely noticable if it's set up
correctly. Backfiring on lpg is a rare problem on Fords, and I'd be checking
your car's ignition system very carefully...

A "catback" exhaust simply means changing the exhaust system for a more
"free flowing" one from the catalytic converter back. This is a *very* low
power mod, to the point that you'd barely notice a difference, as the
biggest changes to be had from exhaust systems are in the front half.
A Catback will probably change the exhaust note, and not much more.

Well, if you've got that sort of money, put a supercharger or turbo on it.
No other single mod will give you anywhere near the same level of
performance.

Not as far as I'm aware.
All you're talking about here is a slightly larger than stock air intake
"snorkel" that bolts onto the air filter box in place of your standard one,
and it's doubtful that you'd notice any difference in performance by just
doing that alone.

Try taking the grill out and spray painting it black. Very cheap solution
and gives a bit more life to the image. (Black is the colour it was supposed
to be from the start but the marketing guys got spooked just before it came
on the market and they decided to put the futura grill on the forte. poor
decision IMHO.)

First of all i recon convert taht thing to pure LPG, should be easy as everything is there for lpg to work. Dun ask me how lol. 100% is alot better than dual fuel, more power as the tunnin is for LPG not a mixture, better performance and economy. I should know i have an AU 1 forte on 100% LPG. And have had pass experience with dual fuel cars... shockin, cant start properly, black smoke loss of power/no power list goes on, convert it now. >> Stay informed about: AU FALCON MOD QUESTION
