Can anyone tell me if I need a special tool to remove the clutch on my AC.
It's a '99 Deville. The seal behind the clutch appears to be leaking. Also
if I replace the seals and o rings do I need to replace the drier/acc. too?

Over time the seal will weep some, but unless you are experienced in
this job, it will prolly come out wrong. Unless it's a very bad leak, I
would not mess with it. A bad leak would call for a replacement,
preferrably new piece. Rebuilders don't have the best reputation for
their work not leaking. R & R'ing this piece over and over again isn't
something you want to do. The accmulator is 7yrs and if you have to open
the system, the smart money would say replace it. Be sure you replace
the lost oil that is/was in both the accmulator and/or compressor....the
correct amount
Do Not use any 'sealer-in-a-can' in the system.....bad things can
happen.

You would need certain equiptment to do it right. If the seal is leaking,
usually you replace the compressor, and when you replace the compressor
you replace the dryer too. Here's the thing....You MUST put the whole
system into a vacuumm for at least 15 min...to 30 min to remove any
moisture or you can lose your whole ac system....It's called Black death.
make sure you add oil directly to the compressor before installing it and
also after vacuumm.

I've located the equipment to put a vacuum on the system but didn't realize
I needed to do it that long so thanks for the info.
