Post subject: 99 stalls then needs jumped

My 99 Malibu 6 CYL auto trans recently stalled and then restarted. However when I cut it off, it would not even crank. It needed a jump. Had battery, alternator and started check. All Ok. Anyboy else have this problem or can offer assistance. Just bought the car used 2 months ago. Car did sit or almost a year without being drove. Has been drove regularly for last 4 months. Mechanic, not a dealer, suggested having computer re-programed. Any suggestions
