99 F150 Lost Reverse gear

Hey there, 1st post and it's a car problem.

My father's 99 F150 lost Reverse gear just recently, The four forward gears are fine (seemingly), But it's like the engine is free revving in reverse, almost as if it were in nuetral. Any ideas as to what this could be? Im Hoping it's possibly the linkage keeping it in nuetral, or possibly the Trans needs to be rebuilt (hope not).

Any ideas would be great, thanks.

Broken transmission perhaps?
