Archived from groups: rec>autos>makers>chrysler (more info?)

I've got a 1995 Chrysler Concorde that is getting to the end of its
life. The mileage isn't bad (110,000) but the repair bills are starting
to mount. Plus, it needs a paint job (with grinding down some rust, but
no rust-throughs) very badly. Maaco advised about $1,000 (mostly labor
to grind the rust).

The Kelly Blue Book value, considering that its starting to rust, is
about $1,100. I just had it in to the dealer to see about three repairs
and they'll run about $1,000. So, I'm thinking that its about time to
say goodbye.

I'm in no hurry to get rid of it as it runs (at least for the moment)
and I drive very little since my office is very close. Considering its
value/condition, I think I might be better off selling it for parts?
The last time I tried to trade in a car like this they gave just a few
hundred dollars on trade.

What do you advise? -- Rik

ps: It has very nice wheels and the tires probably have only about 15K
miles on them.

Post a Buy/Sell/Trade on www.dodgeintrepid.net and www.lhforums.net -
both are LH car (1st and 2nd gen) enthusiast sites. You just might find
a sale to someone in your geographic area who would appreciates 1st gen
LH car that has been taken care of - or might want it for parts. Try to
have some photos to post.

What three repairs are needed that total $1,100? If you can elaborate it
would help to determine if it is worth repairing.

with the miles you would have no problem selling it for 1500.00 on craigs
list

I'm going to sell my '95 Concorde within a few months.
It looks like new, runs like a charm, oil consumption as original at
about 6k miles per quart, with 85K miles.
Been waiting since August for gas to drop in price. Looking very good
now.
I'll post it on CL, where I got my '04 300M, and will drive it around
with a FS sign in the side window. Sold my 10yr old '86 GTS this way in
two days.

Josh, thanks for the reply and ideas.

Engine-wise, my Concorde is running fine. No oil added between oil
changes and currently at 110K miles. I have about 4 problems that need
fixing ($1,100) plus rusting (~$1,000). I'm going to see if I can use
the wheels from the Concorde on our Chrysler Town & Country minivan as
the Concorde has some very nice chrome alloy wheels. I guess a listing
on Craigslist might be helpful. Otherwise, I've been advised that the
Salvation Army will take cars like this as a tax deductible donation. I
expect next to nothing on a trade-in.

Bill,

I agree that it has fairly low miles and some resale value. That said, I do
not believe that the OP ever clearly stated the nature of the three repairs
that are needed for the quoted $1,000. Getting $1,500 assumes these aren't
major drive train items.

Craigslist is a very bad idea, I tried to sell my 94 Concorde on it back
in 2005, the only responses I got were from Nigerians who wanted to ship
the car to London. I got a few legitimate responses from a local print
publication, the Want Advertiser, but no takers. Eventually I gave it to
Public Radio in return for a $450 tax deduction. Old Chryslers have no
resale value even in good times. My Concorde had 127K miles on it and a 6
month old rebuilt transmission. 2005 was also Chrysler's last good year,
the 300C was the hottest car on the market which gave the brand a boost,
now Chrysler is dead man walking so there is even less appeal for the
brand.

Tell that to the people that regularly get 6 figures for Barrcudas and

You must be capable of ignoring spam & fraud.

The 300C was hot at first, but it had a limited audience. With the high
gas prices of last year even that audience reduced in numbers.
I'm sure it's built as well or better now than in 2005.

My dealers maintenance staff told me the 300M was the best Chrysler car
every. I like my 300M very much, but it will take me several years to
comment on it's reliability.

I haven't tried to sell my '95 Concorde yet, but the fast dropping gas
prices are getting me close to that point. If I had another garage I'd
keep it for bad weather driving to save the 300M from abuse.
