Post subject: 94 Altima starting problems

I am having similar problems to this. Never thought it was my dist though, because when the car does start, it runs fine. I have a 1994 Nissan Altima 240,000 miles. Car has always had regular maintenance and still runs strong, when it starts. It does not like to start when its cold, and now it wont start when its hot.
I do have oil leaking from around the dist, and around the valve cover gasket. Probably a half quart every 3 weeks or so. It smokes a little when it does first start, but not after its been running. The spark plugs have a little bit of oil on the threads after a few weeks of being in the motor. But the electrodes look clean with a grayish white color after a few months. Could I be having this cam sensor problem? If so where can I find it? Or is it part of the dist. and the whole unit needs replacing?

Thanks all

Can anybody help???? I replaced the Distributor, the cap, rotor, fuel pump, filter, temp sensors, injectors cleaned and a tune up and no start. For some reason I think its flooding out. This problem only happens in the wintertime for the past 2 years.

I don't have any experience with a 1994, but I undestand that one of
the problems with that car is that oil gets into the distributor and
fouls everything up. I am not sure if they put the cam sensor inside
the distributor (I don't have a manual on me right now).

You may want to check for oil inside the distributor -- from what
others were been told by their mechanic, often the distrbutor needs
replacing.

Hope this helps.
