What's behind 93 Civic LSi dash? Safe to screw into?

Right hand drive (though I imagine left hand is the same - in reverse).

Want to mount a Nokia handsfree kit - only place that looks good for
mounting the phone cradle is to the passenger side of the adjustable air
vents in the center of the dashboard under the mirror.

There's no airbags in this car - so I'm hoping that there's just a void
behind the dash.

Can I screw into the padding just beside the vents? Is there anything hard
behind the padding (steel / plastic frame) at that point which I would need
to drill holes through? The screws are about 1.5 inches long - self-tappers,
and four of them mount in the foot of the car kit (about 1.5 x 1 inches).

Don't want to be screwing into any wiring bundles etc

Not sure how well the screws are going to hold if they are only screwed
into the plastic dash. On my '94 I mounted a metal bracket to the inside
of the radio compartment. The bracket comes straight out until it hits
the bezel around the stereo / heater controls. There it makes a sharp
turn towards the passenger side and out into plain view. I stuffed the
control box under the shift lever trim, right behind the cup holders.
I'll snap some shots of this over the next few days and e-mail them to
