The ventilator blower on my 1993 9000 has now given up. No, it's not the
fuse, it happened gradually over a week or so with changing speeds and noises.
Summertime is manageable because I can open the windows a little, but I will
need the demister/defroster in autumn/winter. What are my options?

Hi,

You fix I guess (or at least try getting some prices). Supposingly
there is a discount for parts for older saabs if you buy from a main dealer.

I might have read something about a resistor ??? or some circuit causing
the problem ... see if anyone else comes along.

You probably need part number 9628587 for the motor.
Googling for it gives me this page (see about 3rd load of items down the
page) http://www.thesaabsite.com/9000/9000cabinfan.htm

As I remember I had read about replacing the fan here is what google shows:
http://www.saab9000.com/procedures/ventilation/blower/blower.php

Some other possibly useful links from google
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&c2coff=1&client=firefox-a&rls=org.m...lla%3Ae
and in case it wraps
http://mini.dundee.ac.uk/bin/?733187h1

Finally someone who appears to stock the motor (without blades?)
http://www.scantechparts.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%...ww%2esc
or http://mini.dundee.ac.uk/bin/?733187k1

Regards
Charles

PS. I just bought a set of front brake pads ... my job looks a lot
easier than what you may have to do Sad

Thanks for info. The resistor problem is when the fan only works on step 4. But my
fan blower is way beyond that; it only worked on step 4 until it gave up completely,
while gradually getting slower. Obviously the fan motor has seized. What a lovely
word "seized". If something doesn't work, you can always say with a professional
nod: "Your XXXX has seized , Sir".

Sooner or later I will have to do something, at least before the autumn weather.
Maybe I will try ebay again.

Has the series resistor that controls the speed burnt out ? Mine only runs at full
speed at the moment for example.

Another possibility might also be the switch itself.

Well, as long as the motor hasn't burnt out, a bit of fresh lubricant might fix it.

The blower resistor problem is very common on older cars AFAIK, also on other
makes of cars. The manufacturer's blower unit is probably from a common source.
It is possible to mend the resistor unit by replacing the diode on the unit.

However, my blower problem is beyond that stage, it doesn't work on any settings.
