Post subject: 90 honda accord erratic tach

90 honda accord

driving to work this morning and for 3 or 4 seconds the tach jumped
up and down erratically. Never happened before. Only happened once.
Engine ran fine while tach was jumping. No other sysmptoms. Speedometer
seemed fine.

Either:
2) Your igniter is failing. Replace it before you get stranded. Or,
2) the tach signal wire (blue wire) connector in the distributor is
corroded and making intermittent contact.

to add to what tegger says, it could also be a defective tach. my 90
crx had one. symptoms exactly as you describe. if you get a
replacement from a junkyard, it's about a 10 minute job to put it in.
