The car has developed an issue with reverse. All other gears are working fine. However, reverse works when it wants to. We've noticed the cooler the weather, the more it "works", meaning, it will go into reverse. Not always, but if you rev it up in stages (not one long rev) it will usually jump into reverse.
Our mechanic knows nothing about transmissions. Others have told us we need a new transmission. Still others say it's a vacuum or selenoid but it will cost xx amount of dollars to diagnose. Anything for someone to make some big bucks on what appears to be a relatively simple problem/issue (at least we hope).
So, does anyone have a clue? Can anyone tell us what to look for or how to diagnose without having to deal with crooks and breaking our empty bank account?
