A plugged gas tank vent can act like that. It puts a vacuum on the gas
tank causing the engine to starve for fuel, then allows it to run again
in a few minutes after the vacuum has dissipated.
The filter is about $2.00 and sits on the bottom of a charcoal canister
usually.
Quick test for that is next time it stalls, open the gas cap and see if
it starts right back up.
Just FYI, electronic stores also sell a freezing spray you can use on
parts like the coil or ignition module to see if heat failure is
happening rather than toss part$ at it.
