On my '68 you lock door from outside w/key when leaving it. In later
years they added feature where you could push down lock knob before
closing door, then hold in the outside door button, close door, and it
would be locked.
Anybody know what year Ford added this feature to their trucks, and
could I use those later parts in my '68 door to upgrade?
Thanks, John >> Stay informed about: '68 F100 door lock Question |

Have you tried having the outside door button depressed when you press
the lock button? I'm not familiar with the 68 F100 but I've known of
other cars where that was the "trick" to lock it without the key. >> Stay informed about: '68 F100 door lock Question |

I had a '63 F100 Custom Cab, Short Bed with unibody construction, and I
think I could lock the door while it was open, then close it and it would
remain locked. The door handle operated in one direction to open the door,
and the other to lock it. I recall that a pull of the handle opened the
door, and a push activated the lock. I may be wrong on locking the door
while open, but I have no recollection of having to only lock the door with
the key.
I also had a '65 Mustang, and I know for certain that I could lock the doors
without the key.
Having said that, I find that locking the door with the key is useful
because it prevents locking the door while the key is laying on the seat.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions/tricks, but I've tried them
already. I can only lock the doors form the outside with a key. On my
'65 Galaxie convertible, I can push down lock knob, hold in outside
button then close and lock door.
I'm still wondering if someone else out there in Ford truck land may
have an answer to my original question, what year did Ford
incorporate ( on trucks) the feature of locking door from outside by
pushing down inside lock knob, holding in outside button and then
close and lock door. Then based upon that year, could I fit that
mechanism to my '68 F100?
thanks to all,
