Ooops hit send too early:
X=Charger
S = 68-71 GTX, 68-70 Coronet R/T, 68-71 Charger R/T, Early 69 Charger 500
a.. 68-70 Charger R/T: XS29
a.. 69 Charger 500 and Daytona: XX29, some early models used XS29
a.. 68-69 426 Hemi 425hp:J
a.. 1968=8
a.. Hamtrack=B
a.. 103rd manufactured there.
So from this i would gather that it's the 103rd 68 Charger R/T with a
426 hemi manufactured at the Hamtrack Plant. Sorry if this doesn't help you
in what your finding but that is what the site says the vin info gives you
also I was assuming that you had gotten the info from him over the phone
which sometimes "F" and "S" sound alot alike. About the column shifter I
don't think that is a "RARE" thing since they are quite commen in the early
70's chargers. I also found another site while I was researching this for
you that is a bit more in depth..
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.twinturbocharger.com/vindecode.html" target="_blank">http://www.twinturbocharger.com/vindecode.html</a>
Every search for column on this page came up with a 3spd Manual Column
Shift; and 69 was the oldest so I would have to say that unless he has the
info to match it on the fender tags the car was probably modified before he
purchased it. Good Luck hope this helped!!
