I was drving home on an expressway last night and my car starting making a clicking noise while going 70 miles an hour. The brake pedal built up pressure until it became extremely stiff. Once I applied the brakes the pressure let off and clicking noise stopped for around 3-4 mintues and then the process repeated itself over and over again until I got home.
I had an issue earlier in the day where it felt like all 4 tires, for a brief second, lost thier grip on the road. This happened twice and also resulted in the stiff brake pedal.
I have a 2006 Expidition 4x4 with all the bells and whistles. So if you have a question about "Do I have this option (traction control, towing package, stabilty control, etc.)?" The answer will be yes.
I have eliminated some simple thigs to look at. The brake fluid level is OK. There does not appear to be any brake leaks or fluid deposits on the car or under the car. The pedal linkage is intact. The seal on the master cylinder appears to be OK, and no warning lights (brake, ABS, etc.) ever came on during the drive home last night which lasted about 30 minutes.
Anybody have any idea what this could be? >> Stay informed about: 2006 Expidition brake issue |

What do you mean the brake pedal became extremely stiff? Were you pressing
on the pedal while driving 70 mph? Or did the pedal become stiff while you
were pressing on the pedal to slow down? Is it repeatable?
I'd take it to the dealer immediately!

sorry, i forgot to update this.
I took it to the dealer and found out I had a broken vacuum hose. I did not know the auto 4WD and the locking hubs for the front tires are run on vacuum, so (according to the dealer) as I lost vacuum in the system the fornt hubs kept trying to engage (the clicking noise) and the power brake booster loss power (the stiff pedal) but when I stepped on the brake I somehow equalized the system, hence it all stopped for a brief period. Vacuum hose is repaired and truck runs great. >> Stay informed about: 2006 Expidition brake issue |
