Archived from groups: alt>autos>dodge (more info?)

Make/Model: Dodge Grand caravan - 2005 - 3.3L
Mileage: 71k.

Problem: Engine light came on this morning - July 21/08 . Sad
Action: Have taken to dealer for diag. Confused
History: 2 weeks ago engine stalled while driving making a right turn.
Started again and went my way, didn’t think too much about it as to
why. Since then while driving feel sputtering (little kicks as if
driving over bumpy/rough road), a little rough driving.
Engine oil change due at 72.2K.
Update: waiting for a dealer to call with diag.
Concern: Suspect enging tunning issue(wire/plugs etc.).
Question: If simple tuning issue, should I call the dealer to not
bother and just get the tune-up done, because they are charging 100
dollars for diag only Question
Can someone please advise Exclamation .
Thanks Smile

All this info you supplied and the most critical would be the reason that
the check engine lite was on. Why not find out the fault code and post
it?????

I would like to hear also what was found out. I have similiar simptons on
my 1991 Imperial 96k mileage. engine light has come on but shuts off when
engine is restarted. car sometimes hesitates and it has also died a couple
times. only happens about once every 3 weeks or so. I suspect oxygen
sensor.

Sorry Guys, I got extremely busy and was away on Vacation.

However, here is the update:
It turns out it was the EGR valve.
Cost me 320$ CDN to get it fixed - Part and Labor.
The engine light was gone, and all the symptoms went away.
If I would have said no to the dealer to fix it, it would have cost me
$100 anyway,so I decided to get it fixed to save my time and lot of
unknown, but if this happens again I will do it myself.
I would have probably saved approx $100 dollars if I did it myself
(it’s really simple to replace this part) and purchase the part as
well. I figured I am going to loose $100 anyway, so I bit the bullet
and issue was resolved.
Result: Satisfactory.

For those of you who don’t know EGR valve, just google it and there is
a ton of very helpful info on this including how to replace it.

Cheers!
