Update: They couldn't find anything wrong with it. A minor maintenance
service fixed the acceleration problem. I'm so glad it wasn't the
transmission again. I drove it for a while on the freeway and it's
fine. He said it could have been a bad quality fuel problem or
something with the oil.
For the gas pedal problem they recommended changing the cable first
and then maybe if that doesn't work, changing the throttle body. Does
that make sense?
C.E. - I just saw your post now. I should have asked them about
cleaning the throttle body. I just asked them to check the throttle. I
wonder if a cleaning would have fixed it instead of replacing the
cable. It's too late now since they ordered the part. Overall I'm just
glad it was about $360 for all. I was worried it would be much, much
more. Hopefully replacing the cable will fix it.

I'm glad it wasn't the tranny- that would have been VERY expensive. I
assume you're out of warranty?
There was a recall on the throttle cable, but I don't know if your year
was involved- my '02 was. It definitely made a difference.
If you're somewhat mechanically inclined, it's no big deal removing and
cleaning the TB, MAF and the rest of the intake system. The gasket set
is ~$9 from RockAuto.com. Makes for a nice Saturday afternoon project. If
you decide to tackle it, you might as well change the plugs, too- you
have to remove the upper TB to get to them on the V6.
