Hi all. I have a 2004 Honda Civic DX and the engine light is on. Is there
a way to reset it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, but it requires a diagnostic tool. An OBD II code reader can read and
erase diagnostic codes, which will reset the light. However, if the problem
is not corrected the light will come back on.

A common cause of the light coming on is a loose gas cap. Check it - if it
is loose, it will take a while (usually 3-4 warm-up cycles). for the lamp to
go off. If that is not the problem, the 2004 should still be under warranty.

BTW - if the engine seems to run okay, it never damages a car to drive in
town with the check-engine light on. The light is required by emissions
regulations. Freeway driving can hurt the catalytic converter if the mixture
is way rich or the valves if it is too lean, but those are rare.
