Post subject: 2003 Ram 1500 Engine light

Have an 03 Ram 1500, 4.7L. The engine idiot light came on. I plan to
take it in on Monday under warranty, but just wondering what kinds of
things this light might be indicating. More interested than anything else.

One or more sensors detected an abnormal condition, and it's significant
enough that it could affect the emissions output of the engine - hence the
light.

Cycle the key OFF-ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON (don't go to 'START'), and one or more
diagnostic codes (Pxxxx) will be displayed on the odometer. You can then
look up these codes on many websites (search for OBD-II diagnostic codes),
or post them back here.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

one of the most common errors is a "gross evaporator failure" or
something like that, caused by not tightening the fuel cap after
filling... bites most of us when we get our trucks.. *g*

The light goes on, then off again after you stop for gas again...

Thank you. Did as recommended. P0440. Evaporative Emission Control
System Malfunction.

As noted by another poster, I checked the gas cap. It seemed tight. I
removed it and retightened it.

Like I noted earlier. I'm calling for an appointment.
