Anyone ever have a problem with an intermittent noisy/clicking (sound like)
relay in the dash?

On startup, it'll click for 20 or 30 seconds and then quit. Seems to be
right behind the 4 way hazards switch.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't had that problem. But are you sure it
isn't a stuck hazard switch? I don't know why it
would stop. If you push the hazard switch, does
it make the sound in question? Do the turn signal
arrows blink? Probably not.
Does the 'bong bong' sound work, like when you
push the door lock button? Maybe it's the bong bong.

Yeah, my '98 'bu does the same thing. The 4 way flasher/turn signal relay
sticks and it is quite obvious in my car because the turn indicators will
continue to blink until it stops. It is quite annoying, but I'm sure if I
replaced the relay, it would stop. I took the relay off at one point and
sprayed it with contact cleaner, but it made no difference. Unless it
starts sticking to the point where traffic behind me is confused and starts
running into me, it can stay that way.

Have you tried DeoxIT contact cleaner and rejuvenator. Sometimes
contact cleaners just remove surface crud. DeoxIT dissolves oxidation
and improves the connections. www.deoxit.com

GM had a recall on Malibus of that era for a faulty flasher. I had it
replaced by the dealer on my 2000 Malibu. I has received a letter from GM
about the problem 6 months or so prior to when it acted up. BTW - the
dealer's service department acted like thaey didn't know what I was talking
about - until I showed them the letter!

Same problem, same fix.

Get a copy of the recall from GM and don't take "no" for an answer at your
dealer (actually, my local dealer was very accommodating). You could try all
sorts of backyard mechanic fixes with varying degrees of success, but why
not let the dealer replace the entire unit... for FREE!

Good luck.

When I read the first mention of a recall, I assumed it was a US recall.
I'm in Canada, have owned the vehicle since new and I've never received a
recall notice. Now I see you're in Nova Scotia and you've got the recall so
I will check with the dealer.

I did phone the dealer and they suggested it was probably the 4-way flasher
relay and suggested I wait till the problem is constant. The guy suggested
that it may be the signal switch assy, but probably is just the 4-way relay.

Thanks, for the comments.

The flasher relay is under recall. The dealer CAN NOT REFUSE. And yes,
it is valid in Canada. If your dealer is obstinate, place a call to
Transport Canada with the name of the goof that's giving you grief.
I had a dealer do the same. Nothing gets action faster than a phone
call from not only them, but the provincial ministry asking for that
person by name and asking hard questions. My car was in the bay by 11
the next morning, out by 2 that day with a full detailing for my
trouble. That service manager doesn't work there anymore either.
