Post subject: 2000 Focus Central Lock System Dead !

I had this car 5 years and a few days ago the door locks will not automatically unlock or lock using the key remote or pushing any of the buttons on the doors. The trunk lock button will not pop open either, I looked in the ford owners handbook and it says there is a fuse behind the fuse panel. All there is back there is a small module which according to the Focus repair manual I read in a auto store, it controls the Chimes, automatic light dimming and some other things but no mention of the door locks. Anyone know of what else to check out as to why the door and trunk locks stopped working ? I looked under the hood at the other fuses and they checked out good although none are related to the door locks according to the fuse chart..

This is a 2000 Focus model SE..

On the UK model the central locking fuse is on the BACK of the fuse box -
hope you have small hands!

I had a similar problem on mine - one of the rear door locks was faulty and
it was causing the fuse to blow, had to have it replaced.

Mine did the same thing.. there is a fuse back there 20 amp...

remove the 2 screws holding the panel in place. depress the white tabs to
allow the panel to slip back away from the mount plate. then gently rotate
the panel. in the center where the main harness is tied together there is
the fuse under that bundle...

I have had the same problem with my 2000 focus. I read the owners manual
and finally found fuse 63 that they had noted. It is a 20-v fuse on the
back side of the fuse box under the dash. It's very tricky to get to, but
I think that might be the trick. I wasn't sure and then read from another
person on this sight that this seemed to help. I am definitely trying that
before I take it in anywhere. Good luck.
