The news report I heard said that Ford would deactivate the cruise control.
Does anyone know if that is true or are they going to replace the switch?

The vehicles affected include 2000 model year Ford F-150s, Ford
Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators, as well as 2001 F-Series Supercrew
trucks manufactured at the same time as the 2000 models, the company
said in a press release.

Ford will notify about 792,000 owners to have the electrical connector
from the speed control disconnected.

The company said it's in the process of acquiring a sufficient supply
of replacement switches, but in the meantime is asking owners to have
the speed control deactivated to avoid the risk of fire.

A second notice will be sent to owners once the replacement switches
are available.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by mail in the
beginning of February. Customers may also contact Ford's Customer
Assistance Center at (800) 392-3673.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

It looks the switch to which they refer is the one on the Brake Master
Cylinder. Is this correct? Them showing the picture of the truck that
caught on fire in the garage has me a little worried and I would like to
disconnect it soon.

If you'd like to see what the cruise control deactivation switch does to your truck once it decides to self BBQ here's a picture.

If Ford won't do it, disconnect the switch yourself.

Went to the dealer march 17 to have it disconnected. Me too had the horn disabled after. Went back to have it checked and was told the pad was defective; cost to replace 662$ because the air bag come with it. Asked the dealer to leave it like that, I would think about other options. Went on the internet last weekend and saw your post about horn disabled. Did a rapid test: reconnected the plug and sure enough the horn works.
Went back to the dealer to complaint and they found that the machanics had removed the wrong plug under the hood. Instead of removing the two wires plug on the switch, he had pulled the multi-wires plug on the master cylinder.

Here is the plug to remove.
My advice would be to go back to your dealer and have them check their job. My dealer was all excuses with me after he found out his mistake.

you know they made these trucks so complicated that the shade tree guy can't
work on them anymore, what a pity that the dealer can't either............
