| I have just acquired a neon and the key with immobiliser fob has gone
missing. Getting a key is no problem but the price of a new immobiliser is
£250. Does anyone know if you can bypass the immobiliser?

If what you are saying is a Chrysler key missing all you need to do is have
a dealer cut you a gray key and program it using the secret code, The
dealer can do all that for you, If its the remote you are missing you don't
need that to start the engine.
If its an after market thing...... cant help you there.

No, Glenn. What he has is an export system called immobilizer which was
never sold in the states. There is no easy or cheap way to bypass the
system.
Is the only thing you are missing is the fob? If so, you can buy a new fob
and have it programmed. If I remember correctly you had to provide the
serial number on the module to get a fob.
What is it that you are trying to buy for 250 pounds? I used to teach this
system internationally but it has been 8 years since then and all my old
books on the system are in storage.

No, I've been teaching for Volvo Penta for 2 years now. I don't come to this
newsgroup too often. I'm usually too busy and newsgroups can get real ugly
at times as with the exchange between you and aarcudawhatever recently. Plus
it is sometimes amazing what people will tell other people to do their cars.
Most of it is fair to pretty good, but some suggestions are way out there.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: 1997 Chrysler Neon LX Auto |

I have to agree with you 100% on that. Speaking of telling people what to
do to there cars, you would be amazed of the what the instructors teach us
at the training center now. I went to a suspension class 2 weeks ago and it
was a carnival there.

Reading your post, noting that you've used £ instead of $ I'm taking it that you're British with an' 'R' registered Neon.
Now guessing you've trouble with the May & Scofield remote keyless immobiliser system installed to UK vehicles. How am I doing so far ? >> Stay informed about: 1997 Chrysler Neon LX Auto |

Sorry no way round the immobiliser, reason it costs £250 is that the
factory fit system & compents are no longer avaible. We have to fit a
complete new system. Unless you can find a dealer who still has a fob
instock (Part number 56009113). This can be programed in as long as you
still have a working fob >> Stay informed about: 1997 Chrysler Neon LX Auto |

Incar-1,
is it possible I can put a hidden switch somewhere that will bypass the
immobiliser in the event it does fail?
I'd like to keep the immobiliser if possible, but the risk of not being
able to start the car sometime isn't worth it.

Allan,
There's a lil' more to it than simply installing a simple two pole switch to act as an emergency override ( but not impossible ). If by any chance you're in the north of England I may be able to help.
The combination flasher unit is located at the rear of the interior fuse box. It can be accessed by removing the drivers knee blocker. The panel to the right of this can also be removed in a few minutes if further access is required.
If you've problems with the Neons indicators it's more common that the problem lays with the stalk rather than the relay.
Hope this helps >> Stay informed about: 1997 Chrysler Neon LX Auto |

Thanks for the help!
I thought it wouldn't be that simple, but would be a nice 'fix' - wouldn't
have to worry about getting stuck.
I'm in Doncaster, South Yorks.
If you know how to do it - or something better - I'm all ears - if you want
to get in touch off-list, email is allan(at)euerby(dot)plus(dot)com.
I found the flasher relay, unplugged it but couldn't get it out.
Thought there might be a way to avoid removing panels, not realising this
was a 5-minute job.
There isn't a problem with the indicators, just that I will be building
some LED ones, which will need a different flasher unit - not a problem,
I've made a few.
Busy with the head gasket at the moment...
Allan.
