Hello Cougar fans!!!!!

I just pruchased the car of "my" dreams and I'm looking for parts and
any help from the wonderful Cougar owners I've seen on the web. I'm am
currently replacing the 302 that's in it and putting a 289 hipro back
in it as that is what originally came in this car. (289 that is) The
car used to be white, now it's purple (my fav color) the interior is
good condition, the guy that had it put in new carpet and recovered the
back seat. However, the front seats are in very poor condition. I have
found all kinds of Mustang seats, but I'm still looking for cougar
seats. I thought of recovering the seats in it but the foam is in as
bad of shape as the leather. So, replacement seats is what i'm looking
for. The console is in remarkable condition and it could use a new
headliner. I had a 1977 XR7 that I restored and sold (didn't want to
but did) and my dream was to own a 67 or 68. Now that I have what I
wanted, I want to do this right and need help in locating parts! please
help me!!!!

Thanks Rick!

I'm also having a hard time finding parts for the enigine ,such as,
mounting brackets for the alternator, power steering pump and AC. I've
been checking the local junk yards and trying to find someone local
that may have old parts but no luck yet. I'll keep looking for sure. I
did find an old 289 that I am rebuilding that will be a screamer when
it's completed. Right now it has a used 302 and the guy I bought the
car from doesn't know what year motor it is. It does have the
sperpentine pulleys for the power stearing pump and alternator. The
main problem I'm running into is how to find the right water pump with
the correct bolt pattern to mount the alternator, power steering pump,
AC and the fan. I'm hoping that the 289 water pump for that model year
cougar will bolt up to the newer 302. Any ideas? Thanks again for any
help!

Hey, congrats on your purchase.

Here are a few good resources for parts and tech info;

1.) http://www.autokrafters.com
2.) http://www.mercurycougar.net
3.) http://www.cougarclub.org
4.) http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/Cougar.asp?CatKey=Cougar&SRCCODE=MUCWEB
5.) http://www.classiccougar.net/Forum/

....and of course...eBay. Wink

I don't know if you can get complete seats, but you can get the upholstery
at autokrafters, and most upholsterers can beef up the foam where needed,
especially on the old spring and weave seats.

Hope this helps!
Rick

I have a complete 302 engine and trans from a 68 Cougar that I need to sell.
It has been in a heated garage for over 10 years. It is all complete with
air cleaner and all accessories. Has a rebuilt C4 trans. Ran fine, has
100,000 miles. I think I will try some of the links Rico posted. I know
it's hard to sell a large heavy item long distance.
